The Norbert Zongo National Press Center (CNP-NZ) and the Norbert Zongo Cell for Investigative Journalism in West Africa (CENOZO) are launching a call for entries for the Norbert Zongo African Prize for Investigative Journalism (PAJI- NZ).
The PAJI-NZ is aimed at rewarding the work of African journalists in the print, radio, television, and online media, who have carried out high-quality investigations into corruption, organised crime, human rights violations, governance, environmental crime, terrorism, and other issues.
The PAJI-NZ will honour journalistic pieces in each media category (print, radio, television, online) and a special award called the “GOLDEN SEGBO” will be for the overall best piece produced in all media categories.
Objectives
- Based on the context analysis, the vision, mission and the overall goal, the organisation’s work will be aimed at achieving the following objectives during the 2022-2024 strategic period:
- A freer and safer environment for independent journalism and expression (offline and online).
- Strengthened media capacity that enables participatory, responsive, transparent and accountable governance.
- Increased efficiency, influence and impact of MFWA and its partner organisations.
Benefit
- The PAJI-NZ winners will be invited to the awards ceremony that will be held from 18 to 21 October 2023 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, during the 10th edition of the International Festival for Freedom of Expression and Press (FILEP).
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants for the PAJI-NZ must be African journalists employed or working regularly with one or more media organisations; a non-African journalist who has lived in Africa for at least two years prior to applying and who works in the area of Africa.
- Any content submitted for the PAJI-NZ must have been published between 03 May 2021 and 03 May 2023.
- The entry form must include:
- A declaration of application giving full details of the candidate’s identity (surname, first names, pseudonym or pen name used);
- A copy of the story submitted as a PDF, MP4 video or MP3 audio file or a URL link;
- A testimonial from the media organisation confirming that the applicant is currently a member of the editorial staff of the media organisation that published the work;
- A curriculum vitae including a photo of the applicant;
