Sustainability starts with innovative people and teams – and the High Five Awards highlights those who are at the vanguard of the clean aviation transformation. Through these awards, Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking aims to recognise five exemplary aviation professionals who represent Clean Aviation’s mission via their ground-breaking research and innovation or clear leadership in championing the great transition to “net-zero”.
The Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking (CAJU) is the European Union’s (EU) leading research and innovation programme for transforming aviation towards a sustainable and climate-neutral future.
The High Five Awards
- Clean Aviation’s mission is to facilitate the research and innovation needed to enable a future of sustainable flight. The High Five Awards recognises five aviation professionals who exemplify this mission, not only through ground-breaking research, but also through active innovation and gamechanging disruption. As such, the awards are open to the full spectrum of the aeronautics sector, including:
- Researchers, academics (including PhD candidates)
- Students
- Engineers
- Entrepreneurs (SMEs, start-ups, etc.)
- Journalists and bloggers
- Economists
- Public servants
Eligibility Criteria
- Apply as an Individual or a Team

- Fill out the application form
- Indicate your profile (i.e., student, researcher, engineer, start-up, etc.)
- Provide a brief overview of your achievements/accomplishments in sustainable aviation
- Applicants have the option to submit letters of recommendation and to upload supporting documents, images, and other relevant materials.
- As a champion of equality, inclusion and diversity and an adamant opponent to all forms of discrimination, Clean Aviation encourages applications from traditionally marginalised people.

- Nominate as an Individual or a Team
- Individuals and organisations can also nominate an individual or a team for the High Five Awards. To do so, simply provide:
- The name of the person being nominated (or the point of contact in case of a team’s nomination)
- The nominee’s contact information
- A brief explanation of why the person/team is being nominated, emphasising the nominee’s relevance to clean aviation and his/her/their achievement(s) and/or accomplishments
- Once received, Clean Aviation will get in touch with the nominee, extending an invitation to finish the individual application process.

- The finalists will be notified by email early June 2023.
- All winners will be invited to receive their award at the High Five Awards Ceremony on 20 June 2023, to be held during the 2023 Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, France. Travel expenses, including transportation, hotel, meals, and admission to the Paris Air Show, will be provided by the Clean Air Joint Undertaking. Winners will be given an opportunity to present their work to key personalities and European stakeholders in the field of Clean Aviation.
- The Award Ceremony will be held during the 2023 Paris Air Show, Parc des Expositions Paris‐le Bourget Aéroport, 93350 Le Bourget, France.
- The Award Ceremony will take place on 20 June 2023.
