Deadline: 18-Aug-2025
The Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA) has launched the second phase of the Film Production Grant. This initiative supports the production of feature-length art films—both fiction and creative documentary—that highlight Bhutan’s unique cultural identity, encourage critical thinking, and promote meaningful storytelling.
The grant is part of BICMA’s broader effort to develop Bhutanese cinema as a platform for cultural expression, social dialogue, and national development. It is intended for filmmakers interested in exploring artistic, societal, or cultural themes through independent, creative filmmaking. The program aims to assist those whose work often falls outside mainstream commercial funding channels.
Grant recipients are expected to create local employment by involving Bhutanese creative and technical professionals throughout the film production. They should also help build local capacity by providing learning opportunities for emerging filmmakers and youth. Recipients must maintain financial transparency and regularly report on progress. Any revenue from screenings should be reinvested into future creative projects. Acknowledgment of BICMA’s support must be included in all credits, marketing, and public communication.
The grant is open to Bhutanese citizens with a valid production license, including both emerging and established filmmakers. However, those who received the grant in the previous year are discouraged from reapplying to allow new filmmakers a chance to participate.
Proposals will be evaluated by a panel of experts based on artistic merit, originality, and storytelling approach. The director’s vision and capability, the film’s potential to engage local and international audiences, cultural or social impact, and the feasibility of the production plan will also be considered.
Applicants must submit a detailed project proposal, including a script or treatment, production schedule, budget plan, director’s statement, and relevant CVs with past project information. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their pitch decks to the panel.
