Are you an African journalist? Would you like to learn more about climate change and how to report on the climate crisis?
Future Climate for Africa, together with leading experts, is hosting an online climate change journalist training on 5, 7 and 9 October 2020.
Future Climate for Africa (FCFA) is a research and development programme, jointly funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), that has been enhancing scientific knowledge and prediction of African climate and piloting methods to ensure impact on specific development problems.
Aim
- The aim of the training will be to increase journalists’ understanding of climate change and their capacity to report on climate change issues in Africa.
About Training
- The training will consist of three online workshop sessions (approximately 90 minutes each).
- It will also include a practical exercise where participants will identify and develop a climate-related news story that they will pitch to their editor.
- Story development will involve one-on-one mentoring from an experienced climate journalist to provide guidance as journalists develop this story.
Eligibility
- You must be an African journalist
- Strong proficiency in English as this will be the language of instruction for the training
- A sufficient internet connection to be able to attend all online sessions.
