The Gabo Foundation is currently accepting nominations for the 2021 Award for the Best of Ibero-American Journalism to promote better journalism, the search for excellence, innovation, rigor in dealing with facts and ethical coherence by journalists who work and publish regularly in the languages Spanish and Portuguese for audiences in America, Spain and Portugal.
This Award is supported by an alliance committed to freedom of expression and good journalism, the Gabo Foundation and the Bancolombia and SURA groups with their subsidiaries in Latin America.
The courageous and public service journalism that makes its way at this juncture to contextualize, give a voice to those who are not heard, denounce injustices and propose solutions is the type of professional practice that seeks to exalt the Gabo Award.
Categories
- Text: for the author or authors of the best written journalism work.
- Image: for the author or authors of the best work of visual journalism: photography, video, animation, data visualization and other formats.
- Coverage: for the author or authors of the best set of works on current affairs in any medium.
- Innovation: for the journalist or team that has made the best contribution to the development of new types of media, content, languages and forms of relationship with the audience.
The Gabo Award ceremony will be held virtually in November 2021. Thus, the Gabo Foundation will close a year in style in which it has presented different bets for innovative journalism, committed to truth and quality information.
Award Information
- The winners of the four categories will receive: 35 million Colombian pesos, a diploma and a copy of the sculpture ‘Gabriel’, created by the Colombian artist Antonio Caro.
- The two finalists in each contest category will receive 8 million Colombian pesos.
Criteria
- All the works that are submitted and comply with the rules of the contest will be subjected to a judging process and will be evaluated by a jury made up of more than 50 journalists of recognized prestige.
- After three rounds of evaluation, the jury will choose 10 nominees per category, and from there a group of three finalists, including the winner of each category.
