Deadline: 26-Feb-2022
Innovate4Climate (I4C) Workshops Program is now open for organizations to highlight their most innovative ideas, solutions, and initiatives related to climate action.
Innovate4Climate workshops provide conference participants with practical knowledge and insights from experiences working across a range of relevant disciplines, including climate finance, policy development, carbon markets and carbon pricing, and technologies to turn dialogue into action.
- Finance: Access to finance is still a key barrier to scaling-up investment in mitigation and adaptation projects. Innovative financial instruments such as results-based climate finance, green bonds, retrofitting finance, and de-risking mechanisms are key to promoting investment. This pillar looks at the state and trends of climate finance.
- How can public funds leverage near-term private investment?
- How can financial institutions green their portfolios and evaluate climate change risks?
- How can climate investments be de-risked to encourage lending?
- Markets: Markets are a cost-effective option to accelerate GHG emission reductions and incentivize the adoption of resilient and efficient practices. Last year saw record growth in the voluntary carbon market and the beginning of the emergence of a post-2020 compliance market under the Paris Agreement. This pillar explores how markets can incentivize further climate action.
- Post-2020 Compliance Markets: What can they expect from the growth in climate markets? What is still missing and how do they bridge the gap fast?
- What is driving the growth of the voluntary carbon market and what does the future look like?
- Examples in practice: Best practices on supporting healthy carbon market development and implementation in countries or regions.
- Policy: How can policy create enabling environments for climate action, help scale up climate finance, and accelerate innovation? This pillar explores what’s working and what’s needed to align policy frameworks with the Paris goals.
- Friend or foe? How can policy help and not hinder climate investments? What policy instruments are being successfully deployed to support low carbon development goals?
- Putting a price on carbon! State and trends of the implementation of carbon pricing instruments across jurisdictions and sectors
- How can governments best incentivize private investment and foster technology development?
- How can governments ensure that the transition to net zero is just, nobody is left behind and benefits are shared?
- Technology: Technology and innovation are critical to help fight climate change. The use of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, smart sensors, and blockchain, to combat climate change is being explored by start-ups, non-profits, and governments alike. This pillar looks at new technologies, their application, and what needs to be done to realize their potential.
- Where are emerging technologies used in climate mitigation and adaptation?
- Follow the money: which technologies are seeing increased interest from investors?
- How can governments and institutions build an enabling environment for technological solutions?
Through a full-day program, I4C will empower 100+ young climate leaders from around the world who are committed to careers in climate action.
Innovate4Climate (I4C) Workshops will take place from May 24 to May 26, 2022. They will be held virtually.
