The Birr Writers’ Residency Award provides professional writers with accommodation and dedicated workspace for five nights at Brendan House, County Offaly. The residency supports focused writing projects across all genres, offering meals, Wi-Fi, and access to shared creative spaces. Overview

The Birr Writers’ Residency Award offers professional writers the chance to work on a current or new writing project in a tranquil, supportive environment. The residency takes place at Brendan House, located in the heart of Birr, County Offaly, providing both inspiration and practical resources for sustained creative work.

Residency Details

  • Duration: 5 nights

  • Accommodation: Single or double bedroom with a small writing desk or table

  • Shared Spaces: Drawing room with armchairs, fireplace, and a collection of books, art, and antiques; additional workspace available in the Tin Jug artists’ studio (subject to availability)

  • Meals: Fresh breakfast each morning, two evening suppers at the beginning and end of the stay

  • Amenities: Wi-Fi access and proximity to cafés, restaurants, arts amenities, the library, shops, and Birr Castle Demesne

Eligible Applicants

  • Professional writers of any genre, including: literary fiction, poetry, playwriting, journalism, and travel writing

  • Writers seeking a dedicated, distraction-free environment to focus on a writing project

Application Process

Applicants must submit:

  2. Full CV

  3. Up to three examples of published work

Applications are assessed by an independent selection panel, which evaluates submissions and makes recommendations for the award.
