The Norbert Zongo National Press Center (CNP-NZ), the Norbert Zongo Cell for Investigative Journalism in West Africa (CENOZO), and the Franco-African platform Media & Democracy (M&D), are happy and proud to announce the launch of the: African Prize for Investigative Journalism Norbert Zongo (PAJI-NZ).
Since 2007, the Norbert ZONGO Prize has been awarded to the best investigative journalists in Africa, on the occasion of the International Festival of Freedom of Expression and Press (FILEP) which is held every two years in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
This innovation of PAJI-NZ aims to promote and enhance investigative journalism in Africa, a practice difficult to implement while it is absolutely essential to the democratic transition processes engaged in most countries of the continent.
Categories
Four categories are retained:
- Written press: send the original and the photocopy of the survey submitted (possibility of scanning);
- Online press: send the link to the publication of the survey;
- Radio – send 2 CDs of the submitted work or file (26mn or 52mn format); / USB key ;
- Television: send 2 DVD copies of the submitted work or the file (26mn or 52mn format) / USB key.
Prize Details
- PAJI-NZ Investigative Journalism Awards
- The winner of each category of the PAJI-NZ Prize for Investigative Journalism will receive a diploma, a trophy and a sum in the amount of One Million (1,000,000) CFA francs.
- The Excellence Award will be awarded to the best of the four categories:
- The SEBGO D’OR (Norbert Zongo’s pen name) is awarded to the best work among the four awarded. The winner will receive an additional sum of money in the amount of one million (1,000,000) CFA francs, a diploma and a trophy symbolizing the “SEBGO D’OR”.
Eligibility Criteria
It remains open to all professional journalists from across the African continent employed in a media outlet or collaborating with African media outlets.
Judging Criteria
- He will be chosen by the three PAJI-NZ organizers from among renowned journalists, media professionals and press freedom and human rights activists established on the African continent. It will be composed of 10 to 15 members.
- The jury will be based on the following criteria:
- The professionalism of the author (through compliance with ethical and deontological requirements);
- The “information search” dimension;
- The relevance and originality of the subject dealt with;
- The utility or social interest of the topic addressed (in the sense of the “usability” of the final product delivered);
- The extent of the difficulties encountered by the author attested by the concern for verification and cross-checking of the various sources of information consulted for reasons of reliability;
- The editorial style (form and approach adopted), it being understood that this would benefit from being lively and accessible to the general public.
