Deadline: 17-Aug-2025
The International Fund has opened a new call for proposals to support independent media in Ukraine, Armenia, and Moldova. The initiative, titled Sustaining Public Interest Media in Uncertain Times, aims to address the severe financial crisis affecting media outlets in the region and to help public interest newsrooms continue delivering high-quality news content to their audiences.
The call targets media organizations that play an important role in their national information ecosystems but are at risk due to financial constraints. Eligible outlets must deliver fact-based journalism to large audiences or to specific groups with limited or no access to independent and credible information.
At least $1.3 million in grant funding will be distributed in this round, with potential for more depending on available resources. Individual 18-month grants, valued between USD 75,000 and USD 300,000, will be awarded to national, local, and multi-regional media outlets, depending on their size, capacity, and demonstrated need. Grants can be renewed for an additional 12 months, and funding may not exceed 30% of an organization’s average annual turnover.
The selection process will take around nine to ten weeks, beginning with an eligibility checklist. Those who qualify will be invited to submit a full application, which will undergo an initial review by the International Fund to ensure compliance and completeness. An independent panel of media experts will then assess proposals and recommend grantees based on defined assessment criteria.
Jurors will evaluate outlets on their central role in the information ecosystem and their ability to engage large audiences or reach groups with limited access to information, especially in areas vulnerable to disinformation and foreign influence. They will also consider the financial challenges faced by the outlet and the strength of its plan to adapt to market changes, maintain resilience, and continue producing and distributing quality content.
