Deadline: 24-Aug-2025
African Feminisms – Rights, Representation, Resources is inviting proposals from African artists, collectives, and creative practitioners for digital artworks to be exhibited on the House of African Feminisms website and at the African Feminisms symposium in 2026.
The current call focuses on the theme of “Representation” and aims to explore the complexities and potential of African feminisms by examining how women are represented in media, politics, and cultural spaces. It encourages reflection on how women shape and transform these environments and how problematic portrayals can be challenged through feminist and artistic approaches rooted in African realities.
Artists are invited to submit proposals in various formats such as written works, photo essays, short films, podcasts, digital and new media art, or cross-disciplinary forms. The key is to present fresh, feminist perspectives that engage critically with African contexts.
Each selected project will receive up to EUR 2000 in funding. Applicants must be artists or creatives based on the African continent or part of the African Diaspora, with a portfolio or track record of previous work.
Participants must submit a completed artistic project along with narrative and financial reports by October 2025 and provide promotional material for project communication.
Projects will be evaluated based on artistic or conceptual quality, relevance to the theme of African feminisms, originality, and feasibility within the proposed budget.
Applications must include a project concept (up to 2 pages or a 2-minute video teaser) that explains how the work relates to African feminist theories or practices, a biography or CV with an artist statement, a detailed budget plan, and three links to past relevant work.
