Deadline: 24-Apr-23
The Food Nature Climate Dialogue (FNCD) is seeking proposals for media relations in key forest countries in Latin America.
Food Nature Climate Dialogue (FNCD) is in need of a media relations consultant or agency, to expand their ability to place forest and land rights related stories in key Latin America, Spanish language, media outlets.
Purpose
- The purpose of this contract is to expand FNCD Spanish language media relations capacity to scope potential stories from their partners and pitching them to national and regional media in Latin America.
Focus
- Their focus is predominantly on hard news in Tier 1 media (politics, international affairs, business etc.) over soft news (entertainment, celebrity, lifestyle etc.). Outlets could be a combination of national media (published in Spanish) and international media with a strong regional presence.
Client Profile
- The Climate and Land Use Alliance (CLUA) is a collaborative of philanthropic foundations that believe forests and sustainable land use are an essential part of the global response to climate change.
- Three years ago CLUA established a Strategic Communications Initiative (SCI) to support civil society partners (usually NGOs, academics, or grassroots leaders) whose missions align with CLUA’s. CLUA does not seek to promote their own brand or staff.
- Instead, SCI helps increase awareness of, and mobilize support for tropical forests, Indigenous rights and sustainable land use. They consist of 3 ‘sister teams’ operating in a number of media markets:
- Their core competencies are: research & insights, media relations, digital (paid & organic), and influencer marketing. Their team is entirely virtual and relatively small, with staff, partners and consultants located around the world.
- The successful contractor will make a recommendation of which media markets and outlets represent the best opportunity for impactful coverage of tropical forest and land rights issues, and have active media contacts at these outlets.
- They anticipate needing support for 6-8 projects over 12 months, though these may not always fall into a regular schedule. Example collaborations would include:
- Developing and delivering a media strategy to launch an academic report on topics related to forest protection, land use, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities rights, forest fires, environmental politics, etc.
- Solution oriented stories related to Community Forest Rights & Management
- Ghost writing (or editing) and pitching an op-ed from a grassroots leader
- Preparing and releasing a statement from their partners in response to a key event
