Nominations are open for “The Dieter Baacke Award” with an aim to acknowledge and publicize outstanding media pedagogical projects and methods that convey a creative, critical approach to media, and promote their media competency to children, young people and families.
The Dieter Baacke Prize is the foundation for exemplary projects in education, social and cultural work by the Gesellschaft für Medienpädagogik und Kommunikationskultur (GMK) and the German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
Prize Categories
The Dieter Baacke Prize is awarded in six categories, each of which is worth EUR 2,000 each:
- Projects from and with children (0 to 13 year olds)
- Projects from and with young people (14 to 18-year-olds)
- Intercultural / international projects
(eg cross-border media projects or projects that promote intercultural exchange or take into account the situation of children, young people, families with an immigration background or promote their political participation) - Intergenerational / integrative projects
(eg media-pedagogical cooperation, intergenerational exchange, family-oriented media work, media-pedagogic projects in the context of inclusion or integration of children and young people with disabilities) - Projects with a particular network character
(eg model, innovative media-pedagogical cooperation of different institutions, sponsors or media-pedagogically committed individuals) - Special Prize 2017: Media Criticism – Filterblase, Hate Speech and Fake News
(Yearly changing topic: For the special prize 2017, media pedagogical projects can be applied, which can be found in the extracurricular child and youth work or in cooperation with schools with aspects of digital communication such as filter bubble, Hate Speech and Fake News creatively and critically.)
Eligibility Criteria
- The competition is aimed at projects of non-school organizations (eg youth centers, kindergartens, youth welfare organizations, family education, media centers and media initiatives) and cooperation projects between school and non-school students.
- Outstanding projects and cooperation projects between outside schools and schools, which were realized in the previous year or in the current year, are outstanding.
- Applicants can apply for institutions, initiatives or individuals from Germany with innovative, original or courageous projects to promote media competency.
- This can be, for example, a creative project for the use of mobile media in youth work, a children’s listening room workshop, a video workshop in the context of inclusive or integrative education,
- Particularly worthy of note are media projects:
- (Creative / aesthetic film / video / audio media / internet projects), which are concerned with media culture creatively or even make a special aesthetic and creative contribution,
- Which deal with the promotion of criticism and analysis of media,
- Which deal with the promotion of media competency or participation in the sense of equality of opportunity for children and young people, girls and boys or families.
