The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai (PAS Chennai) is seeking proposals for a project entitled “Women Shaping the Narrative in Media and Entertainment”. Under this project, a grantee will conduct series of workshops and training programs on “Women First, Prosperity for All: Opportunities for Women in the Media and Entertainment Industry in South India.”
The proposed project will bring together subject matter experts and industry leaders from India and the United States to highlight exciting employment and business opportunities for women that have emerged due to the rapid changes in technology, innovation and globalization especially in the last decade.
The participating experts and industry leaders will focus on women in South India who are already in this sector to build awareness and offer practical strategies towards achieving equality in the workplace especially in decision-making and parity of pay. The project will also highlight the need for creating a safe and conducive work environment that will encourage more women to enter the media and entertainment industry
Themes
Broad themes to be covered in the workshops and training programs will include:
- Innovative business and work opportunities;
- Strategies to prevent gender discrimination in the work place;
- Women in creative and economic decision-making roles including portrayal of women on screen.
Program Goals
The goals of this funding opportunity are to:
- Highlight business and work opportunities for women in this sector created due to innovation and technology that has emerged in the field of media and entertainment in the last decade
- Build awareness and offer practical strategies towards achieving gender equality, parity of pay, creating a safe work environment and a formal redressal forum for women in the industry
- Strengthen people-to-people and business ties between the United States and India through exchange of information, experiences, expertise and collaborations

Eligibility Criteria
- Eligibility is open to all non-profit, non-governmental organizations.
- Individuals are not eligible for an award under this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).
- Organizations may sub-contract with other entities, but only one, non-profit, non-governmental entity can be the prime recipient of the award.
- Cost sharing or matching is not required for this funding opportunity.
- Pre-award costs are not an allowable expense for this funding opportunity.
- This award does not allow for construction activities or costs.
- U.S. Consulate General, Chennai grants/cooperative agreements cannot be used to fund religious or partisan political activity; fundraising campaigns; commercial projects; scientific research; projects whose primary aim is the institutional development of the organization, or illegal activities.
- Organizations must have a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number from Dun & Bradstreet.
- Applicants must register with Grants.gov prior to submitting an application.
- For Indian applicants, the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) of the Government of India applies.
- Applicants must acquire all required registrations and rights in the United States and India.
- All intellectual property considerations and rights must be fully met in the United States and India.
- Any sub-recipient organization must also meet all the U.S. and Indian requirements.
