The U.S. Embassy Jakarta’s Public Affairs Section has announced an open competition for PAS Small Grants 2018.
Themes
Proposed projects should focus on one of the following themes:
- Press freedom.
- Data driven journalism.
- Facts-based journalism / countering fake and hoax news.
- Investigative journalism (including promoting transparency and accountability in government).
- Environmental journalism.
- Women’s empowerment.
- Countering violent extremism / countering terrorism.
- Promoting pluralism and tolerance across religious divides.
- Advocacy through the media for indigenous, minority, and underserved communities.
Funding Information
Application budgets are limited to $20,000 direct costs and must reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants are individuals, or teams of individuals, who are past and current participants of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs who work as journalists or work directly within the field of journalism.
- Applicants must be Indonesian nationals.
- Applicants must have a commitment to non-discrimination practices, including equal treatment without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and political affiliation.
- Commercial firms are ineligible to receive funding through this mechanism.
Project Requirement
- Proposed projects must support capacity-building programsfor Indonesians with a focus on journalism.
- Proposed projects must take place in Indonesia.Applicants are encouraged to propose projects that benefit underrepresented regions, including but not limited to Aceh, North Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua. Priority may be given to projects organized in these regions.
- Preparation for all projects must begin before September 30, 2018. However, this does not mean that projects must be completed before September 30, 2018.
