Are you a young person in Jordan who loves photography and social media? Do you want to learn more about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and take part in a competition? If yes, then apply for Sustainable Development Goals Instagram Competition.
The UN in Jordan has launched an Instagram competition targeting young persons in Jordan between the ages of 15 and 30. Youth are invited to take innovative and creative pictures using their phones of anything that represents the 17 SDGs during the period of 6 June 2017 to 30 June 2017.
At the end of the entry period, an evaluation panel from the UN Communications Group in Jordan, will review all of the initial entries for eligibility and select three to eight winners.The panel, based on the following criteria will judge all eligible entries: relevance to the main theme of the competition (50%); originality (25%); creativity and design (25%). In the event of a tie, the person among the tied entrants with the highest score in the relevance with the theme of the competition will be the winner. Members of the panel will select the contest winner in accordance with the procedures set forth herein. The determination of the winner shall be made by the panel in its sole discretion, and such determination shall be final and binding.
Prizes will be announced at a later stage.
Eligibility Criteria
- Each participant shall submit one good quality picture taken by a phone, which represents one of the SDGs or more in an innovative, original and creative way; if more than one picture is received from the same account, only the first one will be considered eligible for an award.
- It is mandatory that the picture submitted is taken in Jordan. Participants are encouraged to briefly motivate their choice within the caption space (max 100 words) and indicating the selected SDG(s). The user should keep the original photo (not yet filtered with Instagram) saved on his/her photo device.
- The competition is open to young people living in Jordan, aged 15 and 30, and registered online trough the Google form provided by organizers. Proof of entry does not constitute proof of receipt. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an online entrant, the prize will be awarded to the authorized account holder of the email address. Entries using macro, robotic, script or other forms of automatic entry will be disqualified. The “authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person to whom the email address is assigned by an Internet service provider.
- To be valid, the caption of the picture must include the dedicated hashtag #GlobalGoalsJO and tag the United Nations in Jordan Instagram account @UNJordan.
- Plagiarism will not be tolerated in this competition. The submitted picture cannot have been previously published, released or distributed in any form; it must not have been entered into any other competition nor won any award; and must not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity. Participants who submit other peoples’ pictures or images copied or collected from the Internet will be excluded from the competition.
- Insulting, profane and violent images will not be accepted and will be directly removed from the account. If pictures involve peoples’ faces, users must insure obtaining the individual’s consent to publish the picture. The image must not contain or reference any names, products or services of any company or entity or any third party trademarks, logos, trade dress or promotion of any brand, product or service.
- Organizers are not responsible for electronic transmission errors resulting in omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions or limitations of any kind, or inaccurate transmissions of or failure to receive entry information by organizers or presenter on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site or any combination thereof.
- This competition complies with the United Nations regulations and Instagram’s community guidelines. State and municipal laws and regulations apply as well.
- Due to the scope of the competition, the Office of the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator reserves the rights, in addition to those other rights reserved herein, to use the names of participants and their pictures in relation to the promotion of any publicity and exhibition. Furthermore, it reserves the rights to modify any date(s) or deadline(s) set forth in these rules and regulations or otherwise governing the Contest. Entries that do not comply with the above requirements may not be eligible and, if submitted, and may be removed at any time in organizer’s sole discretion.

Contestant must:
- Register in the competition using the form given on the website.
- Check the Sustainable Development Goals website to learn about the goals, and select a goal that you will be submitting a photograph for.
- Take a picture with the phone.
- Upload it on an Instagram account.
- In the caption tell what picture means.
- Tag the UN Jordan Instagram account @UNJordan and use the hashtag #GlobalGoalsJO.
