Action Aid, being part of a consortium of 14 civil society organizations working to advance the implementation of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG), is calling for entries from Zimbabwean journalists.
The Awards is an initiative to recognize and honor journalists in Zimbabwe who have been working on critical, analytical and high-quality reports that amplify the cause of the said Charter and the broader African Governance Architecture (AGA) in the country.
ActionAid Zimbabwe hereby makes a Call for Entries for Zimbabwean Journalist who have worked on ACDEG to submit their works for consideration. The competitive awards scheme forms part of activities under the Africa We Want project, titled “Mobilizing Civil Society Support for Implementation of the African Governance Architecture,” which is being implemented by the fourteen (14) consortium members with funding support from the European Commission.
Objectives
The objectives of the trainings were:
- To ensure that journalists were familiar with the African Charter of Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG).
- To capacitate them to popularize the Charter through their day to day story telling as part of a broader advocacy plan.
Thematic Areas
The Awards will honor outstanding stories that focus on the following thematic areas:
- Culture of Democracy and Peace
- Democratic Institutions, Elections and Transitioning of Governments
- Transparency, Accountability and Decentralization of Power
- Inclusion and participation of the youth in democratic processes
Nomination Criteria
An applicant for the Awards must fit the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of and/or a journalist working in Zimbabwe
- Must be working with a media organization (print, electronic or online) in Zimbabwe.
- An entry for the Awards must have been published or broadcast between April 1, 2018 and August 30, 2020.
