Around 3,000 people from four local governments have benefited from this medical outreach. There were around 248 medical experts including 39 doctors, over sixty nurses, 12 laboratory scientists and other health workers drawn from different parts of the country.
The NGO was able to treat all form of illness including breast examination and oral health even as scores from the rural communities came to check Blood Pressure, malaria, Diabetes, eye problems, among others.
Speaking during the outreach, traditional ruler of Ikaramu Akoko, Oba Andrew Momodu said, “Such medical initiative from Miteda Wellness Initiative for people of Akoko and the surrounding communities would help reduce deaths among rural inhabitants. Some of the sicknesses killing people could be treated if there was medical attention especially to the poor who mainly lived in the rural areas of the state.”
The monarch called on medical experts as well as corporate organizations to initiate programmes that would provide subsidized healthcare services for rural dwellers in the face of daunting financial and economic challenges in the country.
The initiator of the outreach, Dr Adefunmilola Williams-Daudu said, “The number of people who trooped out to get treatment for various ailments, was a testimony to the fact that more people were in need of help. It is just getting bigger by the year. The last time I checked, we have been able to attend to over 2000 people from all areas like Ikare, Isua, Owo and Akure.”
The programme has been expanding year after year and it has brought health benefits to thousands of people. It has been responsible for reducing superstition in the area by keeping people aware about their health problems and proper precautions they need to take.
