Deadline: 30-Nov-2025
The Ockenden International Prizes celebrate and uplift visionary projects that foster self-reliance among refugees, internally displaced persons, and asylum seekers across the globe.
Welcoming applications from not-for-profit organizations, these annual prizes shine a spotlight on programs that deliver measurable, real-world impact, empowering displaced communities to build independent and dignified lives.
Each year, five projects are awarded a generous GBP 25,000 each—totaling GBP 125,000—providing vital resources to help sustain or expand successful initiatives. One of these prizes is dedicated to the UK: it honors projects operating within England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland that elevate self-reliance among refugees and asylum seekers in the UK context.
Eligible organizations must submit entries via an online form or by post before the deadline—usually set at the end of November—and can submit only one entry per year. Projects should have been operational for at least six months before application. Measurable outcomes, strong governance, and financial accountability are at the core of the evaluation, ensuring that prize funds are not just awarded but effectively translated into continued positive change.
Winners are chosen by an independent panel of experts who seek projects with proven effectiveness, tangible improvements in beneficiaries’ lives, and meaningful involvement of displaced people themselves. In announcing the call for 2026 submissions, Ockenden International honoured nearly seventy-five years of legacy work, reflecting their founding principles that began with a simple act of kindness and grew into a global movement supporting refugees’ autonomy and resilience.
The five awardees are announced by the end of March of the following year, marking a timely opportunity for organizations to amplify their work, sustain momentum, and serve as inspiration—and support—for others striving for impactful solutions in refugee and displacement contexts.
