The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) invites qualified organizations to submit Expressions of Interest for Lot 14 – Distribution of Supplies, Including Basic and Domestic Items.
In Tanzania’s Kigoma Region, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is seeking experienced partners to support the efficient and equitable management and distribution of Non-Food Items (NFIs) and Core Relief Items (CRIs) to refugees and asylum seekers. This critical activity forms a central part of UNHCR’s emergency and ongoing response to meet the basic needs of displaced populations.
The program’s primary objective is to ensure timely, needs-based distribution of essential items while upholding protection principles that emphasize dignity, fairness, and inclusion. Partners will work closely with UNHCR, government ministries, and other humanitarian actors to conduct thorough needs assessments and verification processes to identify eligible recipients. This approach ensures that aid reaches those most in need, including vulnerable groups such as women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
A key component of the intervention involves meticulous planning and coordination, including developing time-bound distribution plans with adequate staffing and communication strategies to facilitate smooth, organized distributions. Warehouse management and logistics are vital elements, requiring partners to oversee stock management and secure transportation of items to designated distribution points.
Community engagement is prioritized to foster beneficiary participation and awareness through mobilization sessions and information campaigns. These campaigns ensure that recipients are well-informed about distribution dates, items, and quantities in appropriate languages and formats.
The distribution phase includes handing out NFI packages, cooking fuels such as firewood and briquettes, energy-saving cooking stoves, and dignity kits, all according to established humanitarian standards. Partners will maintain accurate distribution records and lists to ensure accountability and transparency.
Finally, monitoring and reporting are essential to the program’s success. Selected partners will conduct regular monitoring and post-distribution evaluations, gathering community feedback to assess satisfaction and proper use of distributed items. Reports will be compiled weekly and monthly, using age, gender, and diversity-disaggregated data to inform continuous improvement of the distribution process.
This initiative not only addresses immediate survival needs but also fosters a dignified, participatory approach to humanitarian assistance, strengthening the resilience and wellbeing of refugee and host communities in Kigoma.
