Deadline: 25-Jul-2025
The Brain Canada Foundation is now accepting applications for its Platform Support Grant Program, which aims to support major research platforms at local, regional, or national levels. The program’s goal is to enhance technical and research capabilities for multiple neuroscience investigators.
Researchers can apply through two streams. Stream 1 is for platforms in development or those never funded before by Brain Canada’s Platform Support Grants. Stream 2 is for platforms that have previously received funding through this program.
Brain Canada, via the Canada Brain Research Fund, has allocated $13 million CAD for this program. Applicants must secure matching funds from sponsors, making the total potential funding up to $26 million CAD. Grants are awarded for three years and are non-renewable.
The program focuses on adding value by improving platform operations and capabilities to accelerate research. It also supports access to specialized technology, integration of infrastructure, creation of new data pools, or enhanced access to existing data. These outcomes aim to strengthen Canada’s neuroscience research capabilities, even for local or regional platforms.
The competition is open to groups of neuroscience investigators, covering all disciplines related to the study of the nervous system in health and disease. This includes neurological and mental health fields and disciplines applying social, biological, chemical, physical, engineering, mathematics, or computer sciences to neuroscience.
One team member must be nominated as the Principal Investigator (PI), who will submit the application and communicate with Brain Canada. Eligible investigators are independent researchers at their institutions, typically holding assistant, associate, or full professor ranks, capable of leading their own research programs.
Each PI can submit only one application under either Stream 1 or Stream 2 but may be involved in multiple applications as a collaborator or team member. Previous grant recipients may apply to Stream 1 if their current grant ends by August 31, 2026. For Stream 2, only one application per previously funded platform is allowed, and any PI applying must inform other team members of their intent.
