Deadline: 28-Nov-2025
The CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowship supports postdoctoral and experienced researchers conducting research in Germany. As a fellow, you receive individual support from the Humboldt Foundation and access to their wide sponsorship network. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation promotes gender balance and diversity among its fellows, encouraging female researchers and underrepresented groups to apply.
The fellowship allows you to carry out your own research at different career stages in collaboration with a host institution in Germany. Host institutes typically receive subsidies for research costs.
For postdoctoral researchers, the fellowship provides monthly funding of €2,700 plus additional benefits. Fellowships last between 6 and 24 months and can be split into up to three stays over three years. Experienced researchers can apply for sponsorship with a monthly amount of €3,200 plus benefits. These fellowships last from 6 to 18 months and may also be divided into up to three stays within three years.
Applicants must be Brazilian nationals or permanent residents in Brazil. German nationals who have lived and worked in Brazil for at least five years may also apply. Applicants must reside in Brazil and have lived outside Germany for at least 12 of the last 18 months. A German host researcher must provide a mentoring agreement, confirm access to research facilities, and compile a detailed review.
Language requirements vary by field. In natural sciences and engineering, applicants need good knowledge of German or English. For humanities, social sciences, and medicine, good German is required if necessary for the research; otherwise, English suffices.
The fellowship welcomes applicants of all ethnic, cultural, social backgrounds, genders, ages, religions, disabilities, and sexual orientations. Academic qualifications are assessed based on academic record, publication quality, originality and innovation of the research proposal, and future potential. Experienced researchers should have a defined academic profile, typically working at least as assistant professors or leading junior research groups, with documented independent research.
Applications must include a curriculum vitae (max two pages), a research outline (max five pages), a complete publication list, a list of selected key publications, key publications themselves, doctoral certificate, and German language certificate if required. If necessary, acceptance notifications from publishers and summaries or translations of key publications not in English must also be provided.
