Deadline: 24-Sep-2025
The British Academy is excited to invite applications for its Global Innovation Fellowships in partnership with the German Council on Foreign Relations. These fellowships offer UK-based early and mid-career researchers from the humanities and social sciences a unique chance to develop skills, expand networks, and advance careers across creative, cultural, public, private, and policy sectors. The goal is to tackle complex challenges through innovative solutions and approaches.
Through the program, researchers in the SHAPE community will be supported to build connections beyond academia, facilitating knowledge mobilisation and enhancing their personal development. Successful fellows will provide policy-relevant insights tailored to German decision-makers. While prior knowledge of German politics is not required, applicants should bring fresh perspectives on foreign policy issues and be eager to engage with policymakers and stakeholders in Germany.
Applications are welcomed in areas including Security, Defence, and Resilience; Europe as an International Actor; and Strategy-Making in a Geopolitical World. The Academy offers up to two fellowships, each lasting one year, based at DGAP’s Berlin offices, with awards up to £150,000.
The funding covers salary costs, indirect and estate costs related to the fellowship, and reasonable relocation and visa expenses, including a return trip to Berlin before starting. However, costs such as equipment, computer hardware, and permanent resources are not eligible.
Applicants must be UK residents holding a current long-term appointment for the award period. Candidates should bring strong potential for bridging academic and non-academic environments and contribute meaningfully to DGAP’s mission. Independent researchers and postgraduate students are not eligible for this round.
If you are ready to influence policy and expand your impact internationally, this fellowship offers an exceptional platform to do so.
