Deadline: 31-Oct-2025
The Japan Foundation, Jakarta, has launched a new grant program to support projects that promote a deeper understanding of Japan and strengthen collaborations between Japan and Indonesia or East Timor.
This initiative provides partial funding for Japanese Studies projects that build intellectual and cultural connections, foster joint research, and encourage sustainable exchange.
The program prioritizes projects that enhance the study of Japan in Indonesia and the region, particularly those with innovative approaches, pioneering themes, or long-term impact. Eligible projects may include joint research, international conferences, publications, webinars, workshops, and intensive academic courses. Collaborative efforts between institutions in Japan, Indonesia, and East Timor are strongly encouraged, with emphasis on expanding professional and institutional networks in Japanese studies.
Key priorities include projects that strengthen academic research, promote cultural collaboration, contribute to international exchange, and support the next generation of leaders in Japan–Indonesia/East Timor relations. Special consideration will be given to initiatives with high sustainability potential, innovative elements, or the ability to deliver lasting significance beyond a single event.
Eligibility is limited to non-profit organizations such as universities, NGOs/NPOs, cultural institutions, and professional experts located in Indonesia or East Timor. Applicants must co-finance part of the project cost and ensure that activities are completed by March 1, 2026. Applicants are also required to maintain a bank account capable of accepting grants from the Japan Foundation.
For-profit organizations, projects solely in the field of natural sciences, commercial or political activities, missionary work, capital campaigns, land or building projects, weapons research, or unrelated activities are not eligible.
Through this program, the Japan Foundation seeks to strengthen Japanese studies in Indonesia and East Timor, while advancing international cooperation, cultural exchange, and intellectual partnerships that contribute to a shared future in the region.
