The Explorers Club is seeking applications for its Kensington Conservation Grant Program to support vital, on-the-ground conservation projects now, and in the future.
The grant supports a wide range of field science disciplines. They are particularly interested in projects that: Have the potential for significant impact, are led by explorers from equity-deserving groups, focus on responsible or sustainable tourism.
This annual grant will fund research that deepens understanding of the world while recognizing the crucial role of explorers and scientists in shaping collective knowledge. Awards of up to $10,000 will be granted to graduate students, post-graduate researchers, early-career scientists, and independent explorers who are at least 18 years old. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a passion for exploration and a commitment to storytelling.
Applications should include key project information such as a concise title, field of study or area of exploration, other sources of funding, budget details, and project field dates, which may not exceed 12 months. The project abstract must be no more than 250 words, summarizing goals, methodologies, intended outcomes, and potential cultural or environmental impact.
Applicants must also provide detailed project descriptions that include background, objectives, methodologies, metrics, uniqueness, plans for publication, and consideration of ethical concerns. Additional requirements include CVs or resumes of all team members, a high-resolution photograph of the applicant, a mandatory three-minute video statement, maps or photographs of the project area, and two letters of recommendation.
Local collaboration is strongly encouraged, and applicants are expected to address permitting requirements. While affiliation with The Explorers Club is not necessary, the organization values transparency regarding any connections. Grantees are also expected to keep the Club updated with project results, media coverage, and follow-up publications. The deadline for application is 13 October 2025.
