Deadline: 01-Oct-2025
Applications are now open for the Camargo Fellowship, which supports innovative research, experimentation, and interdisciplinary projects in the Arts and Humanities. The fellowship emphasizes both individual creative freedom and collaborative engagement among participants, fostering a unique spirit of exchange within the residency group.
Each year, an international panel selects 14 fellows—7 artists and 7 scholars or thinkers—from a wide applicant pool. The selected fellows are offered a 10-week residency in a serene and inspiring environment, allowing them the space and time to focus deeply on their projects and develop meaningful connections between research and creative work.
Fellows receive a stipend of €350 per week, totaling €3,500 for the full 10-week stay, along with basic transportation costs to and from Cassis. The fellowship offers two residency sessions: Fall 2026 (September 8 to November 17) and Spring 2027 (February 24 to May 5).
Applicants from all over the world are encouraged to apply. The fellowship is open to a wide range of disciplines within three main categories: Scholars, Thinkers, and Artists. Scholars must focus on French, Francophone, or Mediterranean cultural studies, and must either have a PhD or be near completion. Thinkers can be professionals such as curators, journalists, or urban planners who critically engage with art, society, and equitable transitions. Artists must have at least five years of active professional practice and be creators of original work with a track record of public recognition.
Artists must choose a subcategory relevant to their work, such as Visual Arts, Theatre, Performance, Writing, Film, or Sound. The fellowship welcomes collaborative projects with up to three members, each receiving their own stipend and travel funding, and sharing one multi-bedroom apartment. Translators may also apply, choosing the category that best suits their project—Scholar, Thinker, or Writer—depending on the nature of their translation work.
Past fellows must wait three years before reapplying. Each application is evaluated on the quality of the proposal, the applicant’s accomplishments, alignment with Camargo’s transdisciplinary approach, and the relevance of the residency at this stage in their career.
Applications must be submitted in English, though supporting documents can be in English or French. Required materials include a proposal summary (100 words), a detailed project narrative (1,200 words), rationales for choosing Camargo and for the timing of the residency (each 300 words), a CV (maximum 3 pages), and work samples. The selection process is conducted by an independent, international jury.
