The National Science Foundation (NSF) has launched the Partnership for Small and Medium Enterprises (PSME) Development programme to provide targeted support and strategic resources for research and innovation, with a particular focus on empowering the SME sector.
Focus Areas: Encourage high-quality research that enhances the development and global competitiveness of industries, particularly SMEs in Sri Lanka, strengthen the research and innovation capacity of industrial sectors, support research projects that offer practical, sustainable solutions to critical challenges faced by industry, promote dynamic collaboration among academia, industry, and other key stakeholders in alignment with the triple helix model.
The PSME initiative recognizes the pivotal role of Small and Medium Enterprises as catalysts for innovation and entrepreneurship. By focusing on the R&D needs of industry, NSF aims to strengthen the capacity of SMEs to innovate and grow sustainably. The programme emphasizes collaboration, ensuring that academic researchers, industrial partners, and other stakeholders work together to create impactful solutions.
Eligible applicants include researchers and innovators committed to addressing the research needs of industries, with special attention to SMEs in both the public and private sectors. A mandatory requirement is the inclusion of an industry partner capable of implementing the project outputs and providing a substantial financial or in-kind contribution.
