Deadline: 06-Aug-2025
The Bavarian Research Associations is now accepting applications for the Africa-Bavaria Tandem Mobility Grant. This initiative aims to strengthen research and innovation cooperation between researchers in African countries and Bavaria through academic exchange.
Funded by the Free State of Bavaria and managed by the Scientific Coordination Office (WKS) Bavaria-Africa at the Bavarian Research Alliance, the grant supports advanced PhD candidates and postdocs from public higher education institutions in both regions. The program enables each researcher to visit their partner institution, with stays lasting between 14 and 31 days.
Applicants must focus on three main areas: building networks through presentations and engagement with the host institution, conducting research to prepare future collaborations, and enhancing each researcher’s career development.
The grant provides funding of up to 3,500 euros for the Bavarian partner and up to 4,500 euros for the African partner. These funds cover travel costs and daily expenses for both early-career researchers participating in the exchange.
Eligibility includes advanced PhD candidates expected to submit their dissertations by 2025 or 2026, and postdocs or assistant professors with temporary contracts or scholarships at public HEIs. Professors in Bavaria with permanent contracts are not eligible. Applications must be submitted jointly by a Bavarian and an African researcher, and should reflect balanced academic levels to ensure equal collaboration.
The application requires completion of a tandem project description (Part A), a detailed budget and timeline (Part B), and two CVs limited to three pages each. Only joint applications are accepted; individual submissions will not be considered.
