Deadline: 26-Sep-2025
The Embassy of France in Australia, AFRAN Inc. and Monash University, through its ARC SRI Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future, has jointly established a research grant to support collaborative French-Australian science.
This cooperative research grant aims to foster and reinforce collaboration between scientists in all scientific fields on projects related to the study of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Funding through this program is designed to facilitate: Researcher exchange between Australia and France. Funding grants to undertake research or field work.
The program provides funding of up to 30,000 AUD (17,000 euros) to support activities within a 24-month timeframe. It is designed not to fund major research but rather to provide developmental and seed assistance. Eligible applicants include researchers and experts affiliated with organisations in Australia and France, across both public and private sectors. Joint projects must involve at least one organisation in each country, and special attention will be given to proposals led by early career scientists.
One or more projects will be selected by a joint panel based on scientific merit, the introduction of new perspectives for Antarctic research, and the project’s capacity to strengthen strategic alliances between France and Australia. All fields of research are eligible for consideration, making the program widely accessible to diverse scientific disciplines.
Successful applicants are required to provide a report on the research activities funded by the program, along with an acquittal of funds, within two months of completing the funded activity. For projects extending beyond one year, a short progress report will be required at the end of each 12-month period.
Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, September 26, 2025. Each application must include a completed form and a one-page Curriculum Vitae for each applicant, listing their top five publications. All documents should be submitted together in a single email, and attachments must be named in the required format: LASTNAME_Firstname_Grant_Antarctica_2025. Files larger than 5MB may be submitted using the France Transfert platform, but links to public file-sharing services such as Dropbox or Google Drive will not be accepted.
