Deadline: 15-Sep-2025
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers fully funded opportunities for American faculty members, artists, and independent scholars to teach, conduct research, or do both at universities or research institutions in Egypt. The duration of the grant ranges from three to nine months.
Grants are available in several categories, including teaching, research, and combined teaching/research. Specific awards include the Egypt Distinguished Scholar Award, All Disciplines Award, Visual and Performing Arts, Business Administration, Sciences, and awards at the American University in Cairo. There is also a dedicated Community College Faculty Award.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens at the time of application. Permanent residents are not eligible. Candidates who have lived abroad for five or more consecutive years in the past six years are also ineligible. A nine-month stay abroad within a calendar year is considered a full year.
Each award description outlines whether a Ph.D., another terminal degree, or equivalent professional qualifications are necessary. Applicants must show evidence of research and/or teaching experience in their proposed area of specialization.
Teaching grants do not require knowledge of Arabic or another local language, as instruction will be in English. For research grants, language proficiency is necessary if the project requires it, and applicants must complete a language evaluation. If the project can be conducted in English, applicants must demonstrate that in the proposal.
Those who have previously received a Fulbright Scholar award may apply again two years after completing their last award. This restriction does not apply to recipients of the Fulbright Specialist Program. Preference is given to candidates who have not received a Scholar award before.
Employees of the U.S. Department of State, USAID, the Fulbright Commission in Egypt, or related contractors, along with their immediate family members, are not eligible to apply for a Fulbright award until one year after their employment ends.
