Deadline: 18-Oct-2025
The France Excellence Research Residency programme is intended for Irish or foreign researchers, young researchers and PhD students working in an Irish research institution who wish to undertake a research visit of up to a month in France.
This initiative is designed to support international collaboration and encourage deeper academic ties, particularly between France and Ireland. It is open to researchers at various stages in their careers and welcomes applications from all fields of research.
The financial support offered varies depending on the applicant’s career level. PhD students and young researchers who have completed their doctorates within the last five years receive €1,704 for a 30-day stay. More experienced researchers with over five years of post-PhD experience are eligible for a slightly higher amount of €2,055 for the same duration. It is important to note that this funding is fixed and does not include additional support for travel, accommodation, or other expenses.
Although the program is open to all disciplines, preference is given to research proposals that align with key areas of Franco-Irish cooperation. These include humanities and social sciences—particularly projects focused on gender equality, defense, and strategic affairs. Sustainable development is another priority, especially work related to marine and coastal ecosystem conservation, agricultural innovation, energy transition, and the development of sustainable cities.
In addition, the program supports advanced research in digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and future networks, as well as in the space sector. This focus reflects both countries’ strategic interests and encourages impactful, forward-looking collaborations.
This research residency provides a valuable chance for scholars to engage with French academic institutions, build new partnerships, and contribute to critical global conversations through high-level research.
