Deadline: 15-Sep-2025
The Sony Research Award Program offers funding to support innovative academic research while fostering collaboration between university faculty and Sony researchers. It is designed to advance cutting-edge technologies and create opportunities that can shape future industries.
The program includes two award categories: the Faculty Innovation Award, which provides funding up to $100,000 USD per year, and the Focused Research Award, offering up to $150,000 USD per year. Each award supports unique and groundbreaking research initiatives.
Applicants must be Principal Investigators (PIs) affiliated with a university, educational institution, or a governmental/non-profit research institute. Eligible PIs should be full-time faculty members or researchers who are authorized to supervise Ph.D. students. This includes full, associate, and assistant professors, or in the UK, lecturers and readers with Ph.D. supervisory privileges.
Eligible institutions must be located in one of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
Proposals may include co-PIs as long as they are from the same institution and meet the same eligibility criteria. If selected, only one award will be issued per proposal, granted to the lead PI’s institution.
A single PI can submit multiple proposals for different topics, but may not submit more than one proposal per research topic. Different PIs from the same institution may submit proposals on the same topic.
Each proposal must include a title, abstract, research methods, goals, milestones, references, and either a Focused Research Theme or primary keyword depending on the award category. Proposals must also explain how the research differs from the current state-of-the-art. All content should fit within 11 pages, including a 10-page proposal and a one-page budget summary, and must be submitted in PDF format under 16 MB.
Applicants must also submit a separate Curriculum Vitae (CV) for the PI. There is no page limit for the CV, but it must also be in PDF format and under 16 MB in size. All contact information, including an email and phone number with the country code, should be clearly provided in the submission.
