Deadline: 15-Sep-2025
The NYU Abu Dhabi Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World is accepting applications for its third Graduate Student Research Workshop, scheduled for February 11–13, 2026, at NYU Abu Dhabi.
This workshop offers advanced doctoral candidates in the writing stage of their dissertations an opportunity to present their research, engage in discussions, and receive detailed feedback. Selected participants will share an English-language chapter from their work in advance and deliver a brief presentation to introduce their project and highlight specific questions or challenges for group discussion.
Applications are welcomed for research projects across the arts, humanities, and social sciences that focus on the Arab world, its literature, history, cultural and artistic heritage, and global connections. Up to twelve graduate students will be selected to participate in the workshop, which will be held on the NYU Abu Dhabi campus.
All travel, accommodation, and meals during the workshop will be fully funded. Participants are expected to actively engage in the workshop by reading and commenting on the other students’ papers, in addition to presenting their own work. NYUAD faculty from various disciplines will provide additional guidance on research, writing, and professional development.
Each participant will give a 10-minute presentation of their dissertation project, followed by 10 minutes of commentary from an assigned discussant and 35 minutes of open discussion. Full participation in reading and providing feedback on all other submissions is required.
Eligible applicants must be international doctoral students who have completed their qualifying exams and are currently writing their dissertations. Projects must relate to the Arab world.
Applicants must submit a CV, a two-page research statement, a one-page work plan with an estimated degree completion date, an abstract of the chapter to be presented, and a letter of recommendation from their dissertation advisor. All application materials should be in English.
