Deadline: 18-Aug-2025
Gasworks is currently accepting applications for its Residency Programme, which supports professional development, cultural exchange, and artistic experimentation. They offer up to sixteen residencies each year, inviting artists from around the world to London. These residencies are self-directed and process-based, allowing artists to research, develop new work, engage with the city, and build networks.
While Gasworks provides administrative, curatorial, and pastoral support, artists are expected to be self-motivated and lead their own research and creative work during the residency.
This open call is specifically for an early-career visual artist based in the Philippines. The fully funded residency will run for eleven weeks, from 7 January to 23 March 2026, at Gasworks in London.
The selected artist will receive access to a private studio at Gasworks with 24/7 access, accommodation in the shared Residency House, and economy return flights with taxi transfers. Visa costs are fully covered, along with assistance during the application process.
A weekly stipend of £150 will be provided for living expenses, along with a materials budget of up to £800 and a prepaid London travel card valid for Zones 1 and 2. Additional benefits include studio visits with curators and artists, an Open Studio event on 14 March, access to basic tools and AV equipment, and a dedicated residency page on the Gasworks website featuring a short video about the artist’s work.
Gasworks will also arrange networking opportunities and at least two individual studio visits with other professionals. The team will offer ongoing support during office hours (10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday).
Eligibility is limited to early-career contemporary visual artists currently based in the Philippines. Applicants must have at least a moderate level of spoken English and be comfortable discussing their work in English.
The selection will be made by a panel from Gasworks and external advisors familiar with the art scenes in both the Philippines and the UK. Artists who have not previously worked in London and who produce high-quality work will be prioritized. Applicants are strongly encouraged to research Gasworks thoroughly to ensure alignment with their approach and supported artists.
Four shortlisted artists will be invited to an online interview before the final selection is made.
Applications must be submitted digitally and as a single PDF file under 10MB. The application should include a cover sheet with personal contact details, a 250-word statement on artistic practice, a 250-word residency proposal, up to 15 images or video/audio clips with captions, a CV of no more than three pages, and any supporting materials such as articles, exhibition records, or publications. Files not meeting the format or size requirement will not be accepted.
