The AMA Endowment for Manipur Studies invites proposals for small research grants that advance knowledge, preservation, and public understanding of the people and Manipur at large.
Focus: Ancient Scriptures & early history, Digitisation/restoration of historical materials, Modern & contemporary Manipur history, Conflict mapping and its societal impact, Economic studies of people & communities, Folk arts, culture, and social movements, Ethnicity, Identity, and the Federal Question: A Community-Centric Study of Sociopolitical Identity and Geopolitical Contestation, Geopolitics and international relations affecting Manipur.
They fund tightly scoped projects that yield a concrete, shareable output, such as a digitized archive, scholarly article, exhibition, or multimedia resource. It supports research on Manipur, encouraging graduate students, academics, independent researchers, and NGO-affiliated teams to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and cultural understanding.
The grant is open to both individuals and groups. Individual applicants can receive funding between INR 45,000 and 75,000 for a typical duration of 6 to 12 months. Groups or institutions are eligible for grants ranging from INR 265,000 to 1 lakh, also for 6 to 12 months.
Applicants are invited to submit proposals that demonstrate scholarly merit, cultural impact, and feasible dissemination plans. Priority will be given to early-career scholars based in Manipur. Shortlisted researchers may consult a board-approved pool of subject-matter experts for methodological support and access to resources. Proposals will be reviewed by an independent board of distinguished academics with expertise in the region, affiliated with Manipur University and Dhanamanjuri University, ensuring rigorous evaluation and guidance throughout the process.
Proposals must include an abstract, a three-page narrative, details of the team and affiliations, a budget, CVs, and a short ethics and outreach statement.
