Deadline: 01-Oct-2025
The Exploration and Experimentation Grant provide support for individual artist to work on creation, experimentation, or research activities.
The applicant must present an overall direction for what artistic goals they intend to pursue. There should not be a commitment to a specific production, presentation, or dissemination of any resulting work. While an application to this stream does not need to be for new work, it must meaningfully expand the process or goals of the work proposed. Grants in Stream 1 are fixed at $5,000 to support the artist’s living expenses and any additional costs while they pursue their artistic work.
Individuals must have an existing and committed practice in any arts discipline, including customary and contemporary Indigenous or other cultural work, or a history of other professional activity in the arts sector. Applicants must be 18 years or older, a resident of Edmonton/amiskwaciy-waskâhikan for the duration of the project, and hold a valid Social Insurance Number since grants are considered taxable income. An individual or collective may receive only one grant from this program annually, and applicants with overdue Edmonton Arts Council final reports will not be eligible. Collectives must have a majority of members who meet individual eligibility requirements, with one member applying as the primary applicant.
Applicants should note that the EAC accepts only one submission per applicant per deadline. While an individual may participate in more than one collective, they cannot be the primary applicant on multiple applications. Eligible applicants who have experienced systemic barriers may receive funding from both Individuals & Collectives and Equity & Access programs within the same year, although the same project cannot receive funding from both streams.
Applicants must propose a project title, short description, project dates beginning after the application deadline. The application also requires updated artist background information including name, primary and secondary disciplines, an artist statement, biography, CV or resume, and online presence links. Project details should specify primary and secondary disciplines, along with descriptions of goals, activities, and the desired impact of the proposed work on artistic practice. Additional relevant information may also be included.
Assessment will be based on artistic merit, feasibility, impact, and alignment. Artistic merit considers the applicant’s practice, intentions, and project goals. Feasibility examines the applicant’s ability to carry out the project through planned activities. Impact reflects the project’s influence on the applicant’s artistic development. Alignment ensures the proposal matches the intentions of Stream 1 to support creation, research, development, exploration, and revision of artistic work. Application closes on 1 October 2025.
