ESRC-AHRC: UK-Japan Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities Connections Grants

Deadline: 27 September 2018

The ESRC and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) are inviting applications for the “UK-Japan Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities Connections Grants”, aimed at fostering the development of long-term relationships with Japanese researchers in the fields of social sciences, arts and humanities (SSH).

This call seeks to improve the connectivity between UK and Japanese social science, arts and humanities research communities by providing funding to groups of researchers to make new connections, identify common interests and develop common research agendas to enable future collaborative research activity.

The intention is that the networking activities supported through these grants will enable new relationships between UK and Japanese researchers to be formed; for existing relationships to be strengthened; and for the overall level of connection between the UK and Japanese SSH communities to be enhanced.

Objectives

  • To establish and enhance partnerships and networks between UK and Japanese SSH researchers.
  • To promote the sharing of best practice and knowledge exchange between UK and Japanese SSH researchers.
  • To identify and develop SSH themes / topics of mutual importance in the UK and Japan and where enhanced bilateral collaboration would further world-leading standards in the respective areas.
  • To pump-prime collaborations between UK and Japanese researchers for the purpose of submitting high-quality applications to a potential future bilateral UK-Japan SSH research call.
