Deadline: 26-Sep-2025
Applications are now being accepted for the Brownfields Job Training (JT) Grants. These grants aim to recruit, train, and place unemployed and under-employed individuals living in communities affected by solid and hazardous waste.
The goal of this funding is to provide people with the skills necessary for securing full-time, sustainable jobs. The program supports activities related to the assessment, cleanup, and reuse of contaminated sites, including brownfields, while developing a local workforce capable of handling environmental remediation work.
Brownfields Job Training Grants help ensure that residents can access job opportunities connected to site assessment, cleanup, remediation, and preparation for redevelopment. These jobs often involve tasks such as managing solid and hazardous waste, conducting chemical risk assessments, handling stormwater management during cleanups, preparing sites for green infrastructure or low-impact development, and conducting vulnerability and contamination mitigation planning.
The estimated total funding available is $14 million, with each award capped at $500,000. Funded projects may have a duration of up to five years.
Eligible applicants include various types of government and quasi-government entities, such as land clearance authorities, regional councils, redevelopment agencies, and state governments. Federally recognized Indian Tribes (excluding most in Alaska), Alaskan Native Regional and Village Corporations, the Metlakatla Indian Community, and nonprofit organizations are also eligible to apply.
