The SG Eco Fund, launched by Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, offers a powerful opportunity for communities to co-create sustainability solutions that make a real environmental impact.
Managed in partnership with representatives from the people, private, and public (3P) sectors, it empowers ground-up initiatives to contribute to a greener Singapore.
At its core, the SG Eco Fund supports projects that clearly benefit the environment by driving sustainability across areas like climate change mitigation, water conservation, waste reduction, nature and biodiversity protection, or environmental public health. These projects also need to engage the community in meaningful ways, introduce new or innovative approaches—technological or social—and be designed for long-term positive impact through scalable or capacity-building efforts.
Eligibility extends to individuals (Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents aged 18 and above), groups of such individuals, and Singapore-registered organizations. Projects must not duplicate funding from other government sources. This inclusive approach invites citizen-led ideas, formal groups, NGOs, community orgs, and even companies, so long as projects aim to be community-driven.
Projects are evaluated on four key aspects: the feasibility and innovativeness of implementation; tangible environmental outcomes with measurable targets; meaningful community engagement that builds resources or action capacity; and cost effectiveness—ensuring reasonable pricing in relation to potential impact.
Funding is structured into categories, including the Sprout category, which supports smaller-scale initiatives of up to $10,000. This tier is designed to help new or emerging projects take root and demonstrate impact within communities.
This fund presents a unique chance for individuals and organizations to bring environmental ideas to life with tangible outcomes. Whether by rallying neighborhood tree-planting efforts, tackling waste through citizen assemblies, or piloting cutting-edge green technologies, the SG Eco Fund stands ready to support sustainable change driven by Singapore’s communities.
