Deadline: 16-Oct-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) is launching an initiative in the Savanes and Kara regions of Togo to strengthen smallholder agricultural market support through a community-centered approach.
The project is designed to reinforce local food systems by linking small producers directly with schools, ensuring a sustainable supply of nutritious food for school canteens.
A key focus will be the continuous monitoring and support of school gardens, livestock units, and other community-run initiatives. By establishing contractual arrangements between small producer organizations, cooperatives, and schools, the project aims to foster reliable partnerships that benefit both local farmers and children who depend on school meals.
The program also places strong emphasis on building the capacity of community actors, including gardeners, livestock keepers, and smallholder farmers, who are directly engaged in Home Grown School Feeding activities. Through training and technical support, these actors will gain the skills to manage production units more effectively, ensuring long-term sustainability.
Environmental, social, and gender measures are central to the project. All activities will adhere to the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), with strict oversight to ensure compliance. Collaboration with WFP specialists, contracting partners, beneficiary communities, and relevant national and regional institutions will further reinforce the accountability and impact of the initiative.
A special focus on gender equality will ensure that women and women’s organizations play a key role in the project. Training programs will prioritize women’s participation and encourage their inclusion in decision-making committees. Additionally, all data collected under the project will be disaggregated by sex and age, aligning with WFP’s monitoring and evaluation framework to track inclusivity and impact.
This initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening livelihoods, empowering women, and creating sustainable food systems that support both education and community resilience in Togo.
