Deadline: 21-Oct-2025
The Food and Agriculture Organization Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific invites photographers, both professional and aspiring to participate in the FAO Asia-Pacific Bioeconomy Photo Contest 2025.
Themes: Circular Resource Use and Waste Valorization, Bio-based products and sustainable materials, Innovative value chains and production systems, Pollution reduction and sustainable inputs, Ecosystem restoration and Bioremediation, Open Category/Other.
The first prize winner will receive a fully funded opportunity to attend the Bioeconomy Innovations and Investments Forum 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, from 25–27 November 2025. The second and third prize winners will receive FAO merchandise, while the top ten entries will be recognized with a “Certificate of Achievement.”
The contest welcomes photo entries from all agrifood sectors including crops, livestock, fisheries, and forestry. Participants are encouraged to creatively highlight key aspects of bioeconomy innovation and capture the essence of sustainability in food and agriculture. Open to individuals aged 18 years and above from the Asia-Pacific region, each entrant can submit up to three original photographs taken after 1 January 2022.
The winning entries will be selected through a two-stage process: shortlisting and jury evaluation. FAO will first shortlist photos based on originality, relevance to the bioeconomy theme, artistic value, and communication potential. The shortlisted photographs will then be evaluated by a jury consisting of two bioeconomy experts and one photography expert, who will assess the technical quality and alignment with sustainability themes.
The entries must be in JPEG format without any text, dates, or watermarks, with a minimum width of 3000 pixels at 150 ppi and a maximum size of 5 MB. Each photograph should include proper metadata such as description, location, date, and photographer’s name, and must be accompanied by a photo credit in the format FAO/Full name of the photographer.
Basic editing such as brightness, contrast, and cropping is permitted, but altering the content by adding, removing, or moving elements is not allowed. Entrants are also required to obtain consent forms for every identifiable person in the photograph; for children, the form must be signed by a guardian. Entries without consent will not be considered. Winners will be announced on 27 October 2025 and notified via email.
The contest closes on 21 October 2025 at 23:59 (Bangkok time, UTC+7). Late submissions will not be accepted.
