Deadline: 14 November 2025
The United Nations has introduced the Gender Equality Accelerator Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina to foster a holistic and systemic model of action aimed at creating profound social change through long-term, intersectoral collaboration.
The focus of this initiative revolves around the elimination of violence against women and girls, economic empowerment of women, and female leadership and gender-responsive management. The objectives of the Gender Equality Accelerator Programme also emphasize strengthening the capacities of local government units for strategic planning and drafting key development documents based on the Sustainable Development Goals and gender equality principles. Special emphasis will be placed on integrating gender equality principles into strategic and implementation documents, as well as addressing the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
This programme represents a joint effort of four UN agencies—UN Women, UNICEF, UNDP, and UNFPA—combining their mandates, expertise, and resources to accelerate progress on gender equality. Through the planned technical support, the programme ensures that local planning processes are inclusive, evidence-based, and aligned with the applicable legal framework in both entities. By incorporating gender-responsive approaches into local planning and policy design, it aims to create local policies that respond to citizens’ specific needs, improve living conditions, and promote long-term sustainability and social inclusion.
The public call invites local governments in Bosnia and Herzegovina to express interest in receiving technical support for the preparation of strategic and implementation documents. In the Republika Srpska, up to three local government units will be supported in developing local development strategies, while in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, up to five local government units will receive support for creating implementation documents for three-year and annual work planning, monitoring, and reporting.
The development and preparation of these documents will follow the legal frameworks of both entities, ensuring that sustainable development, gender equality, and equal opportunities remain key guiding principles.
