The Embassy of Canada in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras is seeking applications for its Canada Fund for Local Initiatives that is designed to contribute to development through the financing of small-scale, short-term bi-lateral projects in countries eligible for Official Development Assistance , Which are also aligned with the thematic priorities of the Canadian Department of Global Affairs.
The CFLI seeks to support local projects, planned and designed by local non-profit organizations. It also serves to support positive, bi-lateral relations between Canada, recipient countries and civil society, by strengthening local contacts, and supporting local initiatives.
Priority Areas
- Empowerment of women and girls, and the promotion of gender equity and equality.
- Promotion of human rights, inclusive and responsible governance, democracy and peaceful pluralism and respect for diversity.
- Promotion of actions on the environment, including water and climate change, and inclusive and ecological economic growth.
Funding Information
- In Costa Rica, approximately 10,000,000 colones (CRC).
- In Nicaragua, approximately 533,000 córdobas (NIO).
- In Honduras, approximately 420,000 lempiras (HNL).
Funding Criteria
- Administrative and general costs directly related to the initiative, including consultancy, fees, rents, construction / purchase of infrastructure or facilities, materials, equipment, etc.
- Costs of maintenance, shipping or transportation, including for fuel, and rental or rental of vehicles.
- Computers and communication devices.
- Costs of civic education, or training and capacity building.
- Conference and event expenses, including entertainment / hospitality expenses, excluding alcoholic beverages.
- Cost of services provided to beneficiaries
- Costs of dissemination, dissemination, promotion, communication and information, including publications, website, applications, press, radio and television.
- Environmental assessment costs.
- Advocacy and lobbying costs related to the project
- Legal, accounting, security and medical costs related to the implementation of the project.
- Costs related to research.
- Translation and interpretation fees.
- Domestic travel expenses, using the lowest possible rates, but not exceeding the full fare economy class.
- Other direct project costs.
Eligibility Criteria
Among the organizations eligible to apply to the Canada Fund for 2017-18 in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras are:
- Local, non-governmental and non-profit organizations,
- Local academic institutions, focused on local projects,
- International, inter-governmental, multi-lateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies, implementing local development activities,
- Municipal, regional and national government institutions, implementing specific projects and local,
- Canadian non-governmental and non-profit organizations working in local activities.
