The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to develop and implement the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) in Malaysia.
The program was established by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) in 2019 to empower women with the knowledge, network, and access they need to launch or scale up successful businesses. Since the launch of the program, AWE has empowered more than 25,000 women entrepreneurs with nearly 100 cohorts worldwide.
AWE uses the following online training modules:
- Dreambuilder for young and underdeveloped entrepreneurs and the
- 100 Million Learners Bootcamp on Global Entrepreneurship & Innovation for more advanced entrepreneurs. Both modules are developed by Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management.
Program Objectives
- The program aims to train 100 or more SME women entrepreneurs to grow their businesses to the next level. Each participant will be partnered with a mentor. The program aims to build a self-sustaining network of women entrepreneurs who can learn from each other.
- The proposal should include a pre- and post-program survey to measure the overall effectiveness of the program as well as any changes to the participants’ knowledge of the business modules. A monitoring and evaluation plan is also required in the proposal.
Funding Information
- Award amounts: awards may range from a minimum of $50,000 to a maximum of $80,000
- Length of performance period: 6- 9 months

- The program is open to women of 25- 50 years old who are citizens of Malaysia.
- The program also looks at women with disabilities.

- Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/nongovernmental organizations
- Public and private educational institutions
- Individuals
- Public International Organizations and Governmental institutions
