Deadline: 14-Sep-2025
The Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund is inviting civil society organizations in Somalia to step forward with Expressions of Interest for community-level initiatives aimed at preventing violent extremism.
This opportunity seeks proposals that foster reconciliation and conflict prevention, expand socio-economic opportunities for youth and women, promote positive messaging, and amplify the role of religious leaders in countering extremist narratives.
The proposed grants have the potential to reach up to USD 1,000,000 and span 24 to 28 months in duration. Before submitting, organisations can learn more through a live online information session scheduled for 1 September 2025, which will take place at 4 pm East Africa Time. Those interested are invited to register via email to ensure clarity and alignment with GCERF’s requirements.
To be considered, applicants must demonstrate valid legal registration both within their targeted Federal Member State and with the Federal Government of Somalia. It is expected that those applying, particularly in consortia formats, will be prepared to function as Principal Recipients, managing grant funds and guiding sub-recipients. Organisations should be deeply connected to the communities they intend to serve, have proven capacity in programme design, management, financial accountability, and ideally possess experience working within consortiums.
GCERF aims to support organizations that are well-rooted in Somali communities and can design programmes responsive to local drivers of violent extremism. A key element of this opportunity is the localisation of peacebuilding efforts—strengthening community resilience through initiatives tailored to Somalia’s unique context and needs.
This invitation reflects GCERF’s commitment to empowering grassroots actors in the fight against radicalization. For Somali civil society groups with the capacity to deliver well-designed, locally embedded prevention programmes, this funding presents a significant chance to contribute to peace, stability, and inclusive development in the region.
