Deadline: 15-Aug-2025
Auckland Council is inviting applications for the Papakura Youth Scholarship Programme, which aims to support young people in Papakura to connect, thrive, and achieve their aspirations. This opportunity is open to individuals aged between 12 and 24 years.
Applicants can receive a grant of up to $1,500 to help fund their move into further education, trades, vocational training, or youth and leadership development initiatives. The funding is intended to support course-related costs that are not already covered by the government.
Grants can be used for trades or vocational training, tertiary study within New Zealand, or participation in leadership development courses. The programme encourages applications from young people aiming to improve their health and well-being, access technology, build leadership experience, or develop social enterprise and community projects.
It also supports attendance at conferences or training for personal growth, running community events, and paying education or tertiary-related fees. The programme seeks to promote a strong local economy and provide opportunities for youth to connect and lead healthy, active lives.
To apply, individuals must be aged 14 to 24, be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and live in Papakura with a demonstrable connection to the area. Applications must include a reference letter from a school principal, teacher, tutor, community leader, or employer.
A scholarship assessment panel, set up by the Papakura Local Board, will review all applications. Successful applicants will be notified a few weeks after the decision date. Applicants must provide confirmation of course enrolment or leadership training before funds are released.
The Local Board reserves the right to cancel the scholarship if any false or misleading information is discovered or if the recipient behaves in a way deemed inappropriate for a scholarship holder.
