Nominations are now open for the California Endowment (TCE) Youth Awards 2020 which was created to celebrate the long-standing efforts and achievements of youth, youth groups, and youth-empowering organizations throughout California who have inspired their peers and communities while embodying the values of The California Endowment.
The awards are given in recognition of young leaders whose actions impact public policies, create innovative models of service, strengthen local institutions, and inspire youth power.
The California Endowment (TCE) Youth Awards celebrate young leaders across the state who embody the qualities of the California Endowment through community engagement and social service. The TCE Youth Awards are committed to celebrating the long-standing efforts and achievements of youth and youth groups throughout California.
The winners for the 2020 Youth Awards will be announced in Fall 2020.
The Youth Awards honor Youth Who
- Engage civically, volunteer locally, advocate for important causes, or encourage engagement among their peers.
- Take brave action when faced with deep-rooted systemic barriers and injustice.
- Have shown up in their community as agents of change.
- Have made a positive impact on their community at large.
- Will continue to evolve as leaders in the years ahead.
Award Categories
- Voices for Change Awards
- The Voices for Change Awards will go to six young people between the ages of 13 and 26 working in California who have done exceptional work in one of the following areas: Immigration, Education, Environmental Justice, LGBTQ and Gender Justice, Ending Mass Incarceration, or Inclusive Community Development. These youth are agents of change who have dedicated themselves to the hard work of addressing social injustices or inequalities in their local community or state.
- Community Power Partner Awards
- The Community Power Partner Award will go to two organizations serving California—one youth-led advocacy organization and one adult ally-led organization advancing youth voice and power. Both organizations are paving pathways for youth power at the local or state level, creating pipelines for youth leadership and social and systems change to meet social justice needs.
- Brandon Harrison Visionary Award
- The Brandon Harrison Youth Visionary Award recognizes an exceptional youth from California who has overcome overwhelming obstacles to battle back from trauma and place themselves and their community on a path toward success. This awardee’s actions have built a bridge for others in their community to defy the odds, and in doing so, has inspired their community to create a new vision for the future.
Prize Information
- Each of the six Voices for Change (Award) recipients will receive $3,000.
- The two Community Power Partner (Award) recipients and the Brandon Harrison Visionary Award recipient will each receive $10,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- The nominated young leaders must be between the ages of 13 and 26 by December 31, 2020.
- Previous Youth Awards winners are not eligible for the 2020 Youth Awards
- Individuals and organizations that have previously submitted applications for the Youth Awards but were not selected as winners are welcome to apply again.
