Deadline: 26-June- 2026
The Young People in Sport program provides valuable financial support to young athletes in the Bundaberg Regional Council area, helping them pursue excellence in their chosen sports at higher levels of competition.
The initiative is designed to assist with the costs associated with representing Queensland at national sporting events or representing Australia on the international stage. Each eligible athlete may apply for funding of up to $400, which can help offset expenses such as travel, accommodation, or competition fees.
This program reflects Bundaberg Regional Council’s commitment to nurturing local sporting talent and supporting young people in achieving their athletic potential. By easing the financial burden associated with high-level competition, the YPIS program helps ensure that ability and dedication — rather than financial constraints — determine who gets the opportunity to compete.
Applications must be submitted through not-for-profit sporting organisations based within the Bundaberg Regional Council area. To be eligible, athletes must be members of these local organisations, under the age of 18 at the start of the competition, and residents within the council boundaries. They must also have been officially selected to represent Queensland or Australia in their sport at a recognised national or international competition.
Certain applicants are not eligible to apply, including those who have previously received a YPIS grant in the current or prior financial year or organisations that have not satisfactorily acquitted previous council funding. The program also excludes school-based sporting competitions, political groups, government agencies, private or commercial organisations, religious institutions, and educational facilities such as schools, TAFEs, and universities.
Through the Young People in Sport program, Bundaberg Regional Council continues to invest in the region’s sporting future, celebrating the achievements of its young athletes and encouraging a culture of participation, pride, and excellence in sport.
