Deadline: 01-Sep-2025
The Struts Gallery is seeking proposals for the Struts Gallery Video Artist Residency Program, a paid media arts residency opportunity for emerging artists funded by the Government of Canada through the Digital Skills for Youth Program.
The residency runs from February 3rd to March 31st. The selected artist will meet weekly with Struts’ Production Manager and residency mentor Lucas Morneau to discuss their project and troubleshoot any potential issues. They will also host studio visits from renown media artists living in the region.
The artist in residence will have access to a gallery workspace and free access to all Struts’ equipment and facilities, including editing suites, professional cameras and audio gear, and industry-level software. Training for software and audio/visual equipment will be provided.
Candidates with little to no video experience are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with Mac environments and some experience with Adobe suite, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro is an asset but not required. The artist must be a post-secondary graduate, ideally from a related fine arts or tech program. The ability to work independently and collaboratively is required.
Struts Gallery is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from equity-seeking groups, including BIPOC, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. Struts may be able to provide accommodation in one of its artist apartments.
Interested applicants must submit a CV or resume, a cover letter outlining their project idea and experience, and 5 to 10 images or under 3 minutes of video representing their artistic practice. Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of the residency, legally entitled to work in Canada, and self-identify as underemployed. They must have completed post-secondary studies unless they are located in Nunavut, Yukon, or NWT. Applicants should not have an immediate family relationship with Struts employees.
