The Italian Society for the International Organization (SIOI-UNA ITALY) in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and with the patronage of the National Youth Agency, organizes the new edition of the United Nations Youth Delegate Program in Italy.
To this end, a young woman and a young woman will be selected who will cover the role of UN Youth Delegate of Italy to the United Nations. The assignment will last one year from September 2022 to September 2023.
Duties of the Winner
In the period between their appointment and taking office, the two winning candidates will have to take part in compulsory training both following the initiatives of the two Youth Delegates still in office, and following the activities organized by SIOI. To this end, the winning candidates must be available to travel to take part in these activities if necessary or to participate in live web mode.
The obligations of the winners also include:
- The study and updating of the main international events; the topics covered by the 77th UN General Assembly and in particular by the Third Commission; national and international youth policies.
- The preparation of papers, dossiers, reports, emails.
- The management of web and social platforms relating to the Program.
- Meetings on the Italian territory with students of various levels and levels in relation to the objectives of the Program, further trips and meetings, including abroad, if useful for the effective implementation of the Program.
- Participation in presence or online in the work of the 77th UN General Assembly as per program prepared by SIOI in agreement with MAECI and WFUNA.
The Program for Youth Delegates of Italy is financed by SIOI with a dedicated budget. Any grants or extra funds could be allocated by Institutions, Universities and other Agencies, to support the Program.
Requirements
The candidate must:
- be aged between 18 and 29.
- possess Italian citizenship.
- attend a university course or have completed a university course of study.
- be gifted with resourcefulness and passion for civic engagement, the United Nations and youth issues.
Language
- The candidate must have excellent oral and written knowledge of the Italian and English languages. Knowledge of any other official language of the United Nations will be a preferential criterion.
- It is suggested to attach any official language certificates (TOEFL, IELTS, DELF / DALF, DELE etc.).
Training
- The candidate must preferably attend or have obtained a bachelor’s or master’s degree in International Relations / Political Science / International Law. However, graduates and university students from different educational backgrounds can also apply.
- The candidate must in any case have an excellent knowledge of international law and current affairs and the UN system.
Knowledge
The candidate must – during the selection process – demonstrate excellent knowledge of:
- Structure of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of International Cooperation and priorities of Italian foreign policy.
- UN system and main policies.
- International law and international relations.
- International news.
Skills
The skills required are:
- Public speaking.
- Team-working with people from different cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Leadership.
- Digital and technological skills, communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in any context.
Preferential Criteria
In case of equal merit, the candidate will be chosen who presents the following experiences in his / her curriculum vitae:
- Participation in training courses and / or SIOI activities (participation in the activities of the MSOI, Model, ZEROHackaton, Moot competitions, conferences, etc.).
- Volunteering in youth organizations (eg UNYA – Italy, student organizations etc.).
- Work or internship in NGOs, UN bodies and agencies and Italian diplomatic missions.
- International experiences such as volunteering abroad and exchange programs.
- Participation in the Erasmus program.
