The Swansea Council has announced the Western Bay Community Cohesion small grants fund 2022 / 2023 to offer organisations support in achieving their outcomes of creating cohesive communities.
Community cohesion is the process that must happen to ensure different groups of people get on well together in the area. A cohesive community is an area where those from different backgrounds share positive relationships, feel safe in the neighbourhood and have a sense of mutual respect and shared values.
Priority Areas
- The Community Cohesion small grants fund will support projects which meet one of the following priority areas:
- Community groups that develop safe spaces and events for their diverse communities. Inclusive of their Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities including the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community, all nationalities including new arrivals and Refugees and Asylum Seekers, LGBTQ+ and Disability confident initiatives.
- Promote / create events for significant times of year such as Black History Month, Hate Crime Awareness Week, LGBTQ+ History Month, Holocaust Memorial Day etc.
- Groups that promote community cohesion and help identify and mitigate community tensions.
- Groups that support the local community with changes to the current climate, for example setting up inclusive initiatives to support with the cost of living crisis, create positive messages, address integration issues and loneliness – to help create resilient communities.
Funding Information
- The Community Cohesion Team have project funding available of up to £1,500. Each application will be assessed on its merits.
Funding Criteria
- Projects which involve or benefit one individual would not qualify.
- Projects which involve working with young people and / or vulnerable adults where the applicant cannot demonstrate suitable checks or DBS records are in place would not qualify.
- Projects where organisations do not hold relevant insurance would not qualify. All projects must be adequately insured, such as public liability insurance, and it is the responsibility of organisations to ensure their project is suitably covered.
- Projects where the activity is to promote belief in, or support for, a religion, philosophy or political party, or to provide services on the basis of adherence to a religion, philosophy or political party would not qualify.
- Applications which request contributions towards funding for revenue costs in the for of ongoing year on year staffing costs would not qualify, although some short-term costs may be considered to enable project start-up.
- Projects that have high / disproportionate administrative and or management costs and are not good value for money as assessed by the awarding panel.
- Grant money should not be spent on assets such as IT equipment, laptops, building and overhead costs or staffing costs etc.
Eligibility Criteria
- Charitable or voluntary organisations, those with charitable objectives and not-for-private-profit organisations.
